Who we are

South African Artificial Lure Angling Association (SAALAA) is the official home of artificial lure angling in South Africa — a sport where anglers use only man-made lures to outsmart targeted fish species. It’s skill vs instinct, strategy vs nature.

SAALAA runs the sport on a non-racial, non-political, democratic basis. Anyone — regardless of background — has the right to compete, contribute, and belong.

The national structure includes Senior, Ladies, and Junior divisions, creating a clear pathway for anglers of all ages to grow and progress. Member provinces include Central Gauteng, Northern Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and Cape Winelands.

Beyond competition, SAALAA is deeply committed to conservation, actively protecting inland and fish species and the ecosystems they depend on.

Each year, SAALAA oversees the South African Championships, hosted in rotation by its provinces. From there, national teams are selected to represent South Africa at major international events such as the World Championships and Region 5 tournaments.

In short: SAALAA develops anglers, protects fisheries, and proudly flies the South African flag on the world stage — all through the art of artificial lure fishing.
